Assignment 13

I had fun making my first two webpages. This was new to me as I had never created a website before and it was really interesting to learn about. It really taught me about the detail that goes into creating a website.

Due to the informative links and videos provided along with the assignment, I did not have much trouble creating the websites. The few times I did get stuck, which was mainly due to not realizing I was not closing correctly
vs
, I was able to refer back to the links provided for guidance.

Assignment #11

I edited this video with iMovie. I trimmed off around 30 seconds at the end of the video. Around the 5 second mark, I added a filter to make the video brighter and slowed down the video. At the 20 second mark, I removed the filter and increased the speed of the video. I also added an ending card at the end of the video.

Assignment #10

The YouTube video below is a short video of some of the scenery during the walks I have been on. The trees are beautiful this time of year and I try my best to capture the beauty of my walks. This particular video was taken at Central Park and towards the end is a small section of a friend’s neighborhood during one of our walks. Hopefully this video will inspire you to go on a walk as well and enjoy the weather before it gets too cold! Happy Fall!!! #lbsci700

Assignment #8

First Image of the Instagram Post. NYIT Campus.

Topic: Going on Daily Walks!

Link to Instagram Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/CkW7CNpO0xr/?next=%2F

Something that I have always loved doing is taking walks in nature. Whether it be through a park, new neighborhood, college campuses, or trails, I always enjoy the fresh air and the scenery.

The very first photo is one taken of the New York Institute of Technology campus. While walking through the campus, I came across this lovely set up for students to have lunch, take a break or study and knew it was the perfect spot to take a picture!

The second photo is of a neighborhood that I recently visited with a friend. While walking through the neighborhood, we noticed the beautiful colors of the trees and I took a photo to capture the beauty.

The third photo is one of a park that I walked at recently. This park has a walking trail that is usually very busy and that adds to appeal. There are always friendly bike-riders, skate boarders or hikers using the trail to get from section to section, striking up friendly conversation along the way!

The fourth photo is another of a neighborhood with beautiful Fall foliage. I took this picture at a particular angle to capture the tree leaves wrapping around the fence and the branches leaning over the lower side of a house. It looks almost like a picture you would come across in a gardening magazine.

The fifth photo is one from a walk around Hofstra University’s campus. While attending a meeting for work, on our lunch break I decided to take a mini tour around the campus. The campus was very spacious and had a lot of tulips which Hofstra is very well known for. The meeting was during their annual tulip festival!

The last photo is another of New York Institute of Technology’s campus. This campus is quite big! This specific photo is of the trail leading to a popular wedding venue that is on the campus. The trail is quite long and the venue is a bit away from the school section of the campus, but I assume that this is done intentionally to avoid any mishaps on someone’s special day!

I hope you enjoyed reading about one of my favorite things!

Social Media Evaluation #2

For my Social Media Evaluation Project #2, I choose to review the New York Public Library’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/nypl/). The frequency of the posts are very consistent. There are multiple posts on some days and at least one post every day. The posts cover topics like book clubs, book suggestions, current events relating to the library, holidays and even topics like loan forgiveness! This is a great approach to keep their followers informed and gain followers that may not even be frequent patrons.

While the library has 312K followers, they are only following 161. Their followers consist of other libraries and different branches of the New York Public Library, museums, book pages and authors.

Their profile is very organized and easy to skim through. The account uses various multimedia tools, such as pictures and videos to update their page. The album is also well categorized into separate sections, making it easy for followers to find the event that they are looking for. Their videos are also categorized into specific events, speakers, exhibitions and celebrations.

As far as engagement, their album consists of many tagged photos. Their likes and shares vary from post to post, some posts and pictures have as many as 200 likes while others only have 10. This is similar with their Shares. Some posts are shared 50-70 times, while others aren’t shared at all. The engagement seems to be consistent throughout, I believe the lack of shares and likes on some of their posts has more to do with what the post is covering rather than the status of their engagement. There are many hashtags and reposts included on their page.

Social Media Evaluation #1

The library Instagram that I chose to review for my Social Media Evaluation Project #1 is the Queens Borough Public Library account (https://www.instagram.com/qplnyc/). This is the public library for the entire borough of Queens which has multiple locations throughout the borough. I have been attending various branches of the Queens Public Library since I was a child.

The posts are very frequent. There is at least 1 post a day and on the days that there are events or speakers there are multiple posts and sometimes stories that are saved as Highlights. This account does a great job at keeping its followers informed about any events, closings, guest speakers, information sessions, local celebrations and holidays. There are not many posts about books, but the posts mainly surround community concerns/ information. The content posted encompasses many different categories. From cultural events to local celebrations and college readiness/ preparation. This is a great strategy to attract followers of all ages and multiple interests. The account definitely shows off their events and services which is a key point in making their account worth following as mentioned in the article 9 Interesting Ways to Use Instagram for Your Library. I especially love that they post useful information for the community and cultural events. This really shows that they are aware of their audience as Queens is such a huge melting pot of communities and cultures!

While the account is not following as many, only 176, they definitely have a large amount of followers as one would expect with a total of 18k! The accounts that the library follows are mainly companies, schools, museums, authors and guest speakers that they have worked with.

The account utilizes various multimedia tools to attract followers to their account, such as posting photos, videos and reels quite frequently. This really helps engage their followers, particularly the younger crowd who are more active on social media.

There aren’t many reposts, but there are a few, for example, one posted on Sept. 30th for International Podcast day. They also use hashtags quite frequently. They do not have as many likes or comments on each post as one would expect with the amount of followers that they have, but they are doing a great job at making sure they stay relevant and are appearing on feeds with the amount that they are posting.
