Social Media Evaluation #2

For my Social Media Evaluation Project #2, I choose to review the New York Public Library’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/nypl/). The frequency of the posts are very consistent. There are multiple posts on some days and at least one post every day. The posts cover topics like book clubs, book suggestions, current events relating to the library, holidays and even topics like loan forgiveness! This is a great approach to keep their followers informed and gain followers that may not even be frequent patrons.

While the library has 312K followers, they are only following 161. Their followers consist of other libraries and different branches of the New York Public Library, museums, book pages and authors.

Their profile is very organized and easy to skim through. The account uses various multimedia tools, such as pictures and videos to update their page. The album is also well categorized into separate sections, making it easy for followers to find the event that they are looking for. Their videos are also categorized into specific events, speakers, exhibitions and celebrations.

As far as engagement, their album consists of many tagged photos. Their likes and shares vary from post to post, some posts and pictures have as many as 200 likes while others only have 10. This is similar with their Shares. Some posts are shared 50-70 times, while others aren’t shared at all. The engagement seems to be consistent throughout, I believe the lack of shares and likes on some of their posts has more to do with what the post is covering rather than the status of their engagement. There are many hashtags and reposts included on their page.
